You know… as I sit here thinking about XIII-2 releasing in a little more than a week, and the recent comments by Nomura Tetsuya on Versus XIII and Final Fantasy X HD I can’t help but feel once again melancholy over my opinion that Square not before the merger, but before Sakaguchi Hironobu stepped down as VP. I’m not going to be one of those, Square was better before Enix, people. Because in truth, SquareSoft started to slowly decline after it release the “Spirits Within” movie. But even then, I think SE could have turned itself around with Sakaguchi still there. I mean, I honestly believe that Sakaguchi didn’t just work at SquareSoft, he was SquareSoft. Ever since Kitase Yoshinori took over, I feel like they have been shifted to a quantity over quantity mentality. The old shotgun effect, if we keep churning out mediocrity, we’re bound to get a hit. I can not STAND Kitase or his Design philosophy. They’ve spent more time and resources on spin-offs and sequels than they have on getting back to what made SquareSoft and the Final Fantasy series a success, huge expansive worlds with captivating stories that made their players feel like they could escape to another world. Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m not saying that none of their spin-offs or sequels have been good. I loved Crisis Core & Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts has been successful and I’m STILL very waiting for Versus XIII and if I were a religious woman, I’d probably be praying it didn’t suffer from the same linearity that XIII did. 

Now I will admit, I need to play through Final Fantasy X again. I never finished it. I remember vividly rushing to get it when it came out and I played up to where you fight Sin. It took me forever to beat Sin and I felt like this HAD to be the end. It just had that feeling of being the end of the game to me. And then I finally beat Sin and what happens? You go inside Sin. lol I remember getting so angry. “What?! ALL THAT and it’s still not the end?!” I shut it off after that and never played it again. lol But my point in this rant is… why… would SE remaster X? I understand it was a good game. I understand people loved it. But fans have been clamoring for a remastered HD version of VII for YEARS! As if my time spent Alpha/Beta testing Final Fantasy XIV wasn’t enough of a reminder that SE really does not listen or care what their fans really want or think.
